Copilot at WSU✈️ Plus Copilot Chat Inspiration

It seems like Copilot is in the headlines every time we turn around. You may have experimented with this AI chatbot in your M365 suite, but you have probably also heard about some different versions of the tool. For instance, is it true that some people can access Copilot inside desktop applications like Excel and Word?

There are a couple of services under Microsoft’s umbrella that are referred to as “Copilot.”  There is a difference between the standard version of Copilot that all WSU employees have access to already, versus a paid version you may have heard about. Here are the basics:

    • Standard Copilot: This version of Copilot chat is already available in your M365 online suite, or by visiting copilot.microsoft.com. This standard version is comparable to Chat GPT; in fact, like Chat GPT, it incorporates GPT 4 technologies.

    • Paid Copilot:  The paid version moves beyond the GPT 4 capabilities of the entry-level Copilot chat, and additionally offers assistance with organizational data, like Teams and SharePoint sites, and further allows you access to Copilot from within your Microsoft applications, like Word and Excel.

You may have heard the paid version of Copilot referred to as “Copilot Pro” when it is purchased for personal Microsoft accounts. While our Academic licenses don’t use the same terminology, the concept is similar in that it offers, for a fee, an enhanced version of Copilot.
